Article on Writing Style:

The style in which I chose to write EMPIRE AT WAR is different to say the least. I don’t follow the normal linear progression of the storyline. Instead I chose to take the approach of writing my book like a movie. Each sub-chapter is dedicated to a different character and or characters. In essence it’s like watching a movie where you move from scene to scene.I understand this writing style may be a little confusing at first, but once you the reader gets used to it I believe this style helps provide a wider view of the events happening throughout the world. I do not want to focus on one or two main points of view that a classical fantasy would have (the main hero and main villain usually).

Taking this approach has allowed me to introduce characters that would have been relegated to the background of the story, or minor roles if I took a traditional approach. My approach also allows me to spend a dedicated time on each character or characters, to develop their personalities further, to put the characters in positions that might not have been possible. It can be challenging to make sure that I don't leave out a characters particular dedicated sub-chapter. Or to make sure the book doesn't carry along too far without showing what the character in question is up too.

Rarely is a sub-chapter in the novel dedicated to only one of the main characters, I will have at the least two of my main characters involved in a sub-chapter. As the storyline picks up you will see up to four or five different characters interacting in a particular sub-chapter. It is especially fun when characters the reader has been following meet for the first time. I can see as a reader how I would wonder, "Well I like Calia, I wonder how she would react to say Claudius?" A question that is answered later in the novel.

I have really enjoyed the approach that I have taken in EMPIRE AT WAR and look forward to continuing it in the next novel of the series.

STORY SYNOPSIS:
Crisis engulfs the Empire of Kirmar. Barbarians from the east have poured through the borders of the Empire and threaten to capture the imperial capital. In addition to the invasion mysterious agents flood the Empire seeking to destabilize the already weakened state. To make matters worse Paris along with his wife Suadela have mysteriously vanished leaving their children Tobias, Calia and Pershing to face the current crisis alone. Luckily for the Empire of Kirmar the Sunwright children are more than ready for the challenge that faces them.

But will the united strength of the Sunwright children be enough to save the Empire of Kirmar? As the barbarians continue to push their advantage love and romance blooms in the most unlikely places. A sleeping giant in the Elven nation of Garion is wakened by the immediate danger facing Kirmar, will the Elves support Kirmar as they have done many times before? In the south the Empire of Imaldris formerly a part of the Empire of Kirmar is facing its own troubles. A weak Emperor has allowed the nation of Nazzir a long time enemy of the Empire to grow in power.

Even in these dark times there is always hope. A struggling Empire which has stood for nine hundred years is forced to come together to face the greatest crisis it has ever seen.
