An Imaginative Fantastical Romance,

This review is from: "Time Conquers All" (Time Series) (Perfect Paperback)
When Princess Tamea begins having recurring dreams of a mysterious young man fighting in a futuristic war far ahead of her time, she starts to believe that she's losing grip on her sanity. When those dreams are eventually followed, though, by a vision of the same man dying in her arms in another time and place, it begins to dawn on her that something in her life is about to change. The only question that remains: is she his savior - or is he a portentous link to her unforeseen future...?

An imaginative fantastical romance, Time Conquers All takes the reader on a vivid journey to the nether regions of time and place. In innovative fashion, author P.J. Hultstrand has crafted a moving tale that doubles as both epic saga and trans-dimensional romance, successfully coaxing the reader to suspend disbelief long enough to become completely immersed in the lush literary world of her creation. Furthermore, in both Tamea and Parker, her beloved, Hultstrand has created sympathetic characters that readers will find it difficult not to love - not to mention root for as they struggle to overcome a series of increasingly cumbersome challenges to the consummation of their love.

A moving love story for the ages, Time Conquers All is sure to strike a strong chord with die-hard fans of classic romance.

Time Conquers All

This book is a time travel romance set
in an alternate history timeline in Asia in
the 1500s. The scenarios involves a group
of Vietnam era soldiers who find
themselves stranded in the past and build
themselves a small country, Alare, near
Nepal. It involves their relationship with
a nearby country Laie and their
commander’s inexplicable psychic
connection with the princess Tamea of
Laie. Laie is suffering from internal
conspiracies and the danger of an
external invasion by Nepal. They need
Alare and its mysterious weapons to
enhance their chance of survival. A royal
wedding is planned either between the
Princess Tamea and Commander
Walker’s younger brother or the Queen
and the Commander. This is derailed by
the instant and incendiary attraction
between the Commander (or Prince as he
styles himself) and the Princess. Things
are speeded up by assassination attempts
and eminent invasion.
Further the princess has visions of
future warfare involving Walker and of
herself encountering him in the future
after the war. She knows his mind in
ways that make him uncomfortable. Their
relationship is difficult. Her power of
communicating with animals is also
important to the story. Her Tiger guardian
patrols the palace and birds spy on the
Nepalese for her.
The characters are well sculpted and
believable. The plot is complex and
interesting. I enjoyed the book. A sequel
is due out soon. It can be had from
Amazon Marketplace and directly from
www.azpublishingservices.com.

DIANE GRIFFIN: Authors Supporting Authors Tour

Today’s economy is one of the most difficult times in recent history to find work, and many people are not even making use of their college degrees as related to employment!  The number of people unemployed is staggering, and the overall lasting impact on our nation as a whole is, I believe, still not completely understood.  There is hope, however.

President Obama plans on hiring 270,000 people for federal jobs.  Many of those positions will require a security clearance.  These jobs will become available in varying fields, and encompass all types of skills sets.  The war on cyber crime has been declared, but our country is facing a shortage of computer professional holding valid security clearances,

Federal jobs, as I am sure you know, provide an opportunity for a solid career path complete with its own set of benefits and rewards that are becoming less and less common as small business America is forced to spend less and less money on these things for its employees in a tough economy.  As I mentioned, most of the federal jobs that will be available for your students will require a security clearance of some type.  For those with the skills to obtain a high-paying or advanced position, higher and higher levels of security clearances will be needed.  This is nothing new, but with the changes that have taken place since the Patriot Act was enforced, the process is quite complex.  Many people are discouraged by this and end up taking jobs elsewhere as a result when they could be quite successful if they could just get past that initial phase of getting the security clearance.

For the past 20 years, I have been walking people through this process and helping them get on the right path to security and success. My company, Security First and Associates, has assisted individuals, government contractors,   and entire companies in getting the security clearances they needed in order to get the job, be awarded that contract, or be able to continue working as a vendor to the federal government.

Security First & Associates. has compiled a comprehensive Security Clearance E-Book Guide with facts and FAQs including the following topics:
• Security Clearance Levels
• Security Clearance Process
• Security Clearance Denial
• Security Clearance Termination

The FAQs included in this document are questions clearance candidates have asked and we hope that they will assist you as you seek to obtain, maintain or re-activate a security clearance.

The security clearance process includes an alphabet soup of acronyms; in order to help you better understand the process, we have included a definition list of acronyms as well as a Glossary of Terms at the end of this handbook.

Bio:    Diane Griffin, President and owner of Security First & Associates, says her motivation for writing Everything You Wanted to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid To Ask: Professional Guidance for Obtaining and Maintaining a Security Clearance came from the more than two decades of people she has assisted, both in her role as a private security contractor, and as the head of personnel or security within major governmental contractors, in finding their way through the complicated security clearance chain.
Synopsis: If you have plenty of time to click around through myriad government websites and the patience to cut through red tape and make sense of confusing bureaucratic talk, you may be able to find some of the answers to your questions about the security clearance process,” Griffin says. “Chances are, however, that you will still be left with some of your questions unanswered, because there are some questions that the government just doesn’t address. So, unless you know someone who is well acquainted with the process from a first-hand perspective, good luck.
“What I sought to do was compile all of these answers into one easy-to-read compendium of advice and guidance, giving my readers signposts along the way to assist them in navigating through the clearance process. I believe I’ve come up with a volume that will greatly help its users, and being able to assist folks in working through this process is extremely gratifying to me.” GROUNDBREAKING SECURITY CLEARANCE EBOOK A ONE-STOP KNOWLEDGEBASE FOR THOSE CONFUSED BY THE SECURITY CLEARANCE PROCESS

Jacqui Murray: Authors Supporting Authors Group

A Writer’s Day

by Jacqui Murray

There are three big jobs for writers:
  • writing–duh. That’s what we do
  • publishing–self-publish? Find an agent?
  • marketing–publishers don’t do it for you anymore

If I apply those to my life as a writer, here’s how they translate:
  1. finish the tech thriller I’ve been working on for a year. I’m still in the draft phase
  2. figure out how to get my current stable of books available as ebooks–Nook, iPad, Kindle, etc.
  3. market the 9 books I’ve already published. My marketing is the free sort and includes:
·         my publisher’s website
·         my blogs(i.e., my writer’s blog and my techie blog)
·         the column I write for Examiner.com
·         wikis for my classrooms
·         social networks (follow me on twitter @askatechteacher)
·         word-of-mouth
I’m one month into the two months of freedom I get before returning to my classroom and I already feel stressed.

If you’ve looked at how I write (see how I use an Excel spreadsheet in my draft mode), you know I’m a detail oriented person. You say that doesn’t sound creative? How’s this: I write the story as it flows. Then I use Excel to be sure all the details are followed through on. Excel does the hard part so I can be creative.
I set up a schedule that I hoped would accomplish those three goals while satisfying the three jobs that writer’s must do. Three jobs–three parts to the day. Sounds simple enough:

Morning:

  1. post to my five blogs
  2. write book reviews–I like reading reviews of books I might buy, and it turns out, so do my readers.
  3. keep in touch with my social network of writers, friends, colleagues
  4. respond to requests to guest blog, emails that come in overnight–that sort of thing
  5. update my website (must do that weekly or Google will stop finding me)

Afternoon:

  1. Work on my current techno-thriller, To Hunt a Cruiser
  2. If I need a creativity break, read other people’s writing. I find lots of inspiration in that

Evening:

  1. Market my current books on my current outlets
  2. Find new outlets. I’m looking at Google Books and DocStoc right now.
So how am I doing? The morning jobs are leaking into afternoon big time. It takes a long time to write blog posts because I get into them. I get distracted by the fun-ness of it. The social networks are a black hole of time. There’s no way I can find to stay on top of them.

The afternoon writing is going better than planned. It’s nice to get into the story without having to put it aside for the day job. Keeping track of plots and POVs is so much easier if I stick with it. I need six-eight hours a day of writing, which I’m not getting with just ‘afternoons’, so I’m going to have to rework the schedule.
The evening stuff–if I’m being truthful, I’m pretty brain tired by evenings and not terribly effective. I keep watching the clock, waiting for 9pm when I call it a day. That’s not to say I don’t get a lot done; it’s just not as much fun as the rest of the day.

So a month into my summer, I realize there’s not enough writing going on. I’m going to have to work on the schedule.

What’s your day like?

WHAT HAPPENED TO HUMILITY?
by Vogue

Since announcing to the world that I’m a published author, I’ve instantly become “Facebook friends” with some of the most popular writers in the biz as well as some who are beginners like me. Being friends with people on Facebook allows you to see almost everything that they do or say depending on their settings. While in most cases this is a plus, there are times when it isn’t. I’ve realized this with one author. Of course, to keep from being sued for slander, I won’t call any names.

This author has sold millions of copies of books and has moved on to bigger and better things. Still, he/she tends to put down the underdog (people like me who are working to get our name out there).

Why does the “underdog,” have to be accused of being copycats when we are simply trying to reach the masses?

The author even stated that some of us will never make. I don’t understand this. Why can’t the underdogs just be supported and encouraged?

People see dollar signs, get bigheaded and forget to be humble. At one point in time, you weren’t the author selling a million copies of a book. At one point in time, you were struggling to get your name out to the world just like the underdog.  And guess what…the UNDERDOG is what got you there. You don’t become a New York Times Best-selling author on your own. Yes, you wrote the book, but people have to buy the book in order for it to happen. You should thank these people every single day. They are the reason you’re given thousands of dollars in publishing deals. YOU need US in order to be successful. It’s not the other way around.

It’s sad that some authors don’t recognize this. All they see is numbers in front of their face, which is proven with their frequent status messages about how the underdog will never reach their level. Statements like these just show the lack of support that some authors give each other.

Although none of these status messages have been publicly aimed at me, as a new author, it is very discouraging to see a seasoned author making comments such as this. At this point in my life, I realize that I only need positive energy in my circle. All negativity can go in the trash. DELETE!

Lorrie Struiff: Authors Supporting Authors Blog Tour

“Escapism”

How do you unwind, or find that much needed alone time? That precious time is what I call escapism.
I’m a writer and my ideal escapism—in my imagination—is an isolated cabin in the woods. No phones, no TV, no disruptions of any sort. And most of all, I’d have no pressure to muddle my overcrowded brain.

Alas, I have, like people in all walks of life, constant decisions to make. Do I get my hubby’s prescriptions filled today? Maybe I should get the wash done, clean the house, plan meals for the next three days, or go grocery shopping, etc. Hmm. Should I answer emails, follow blogs, write or concentrate on the outline for my next story?

Wow, my real life is filled with a lot of pressure. I’m sure you know the feeling. At times, it’s too much to bear. Some cope better than others, but I’m the type that still needs that quiet time alone to soothe the jangly nerves. To do a balancing act and find some mini-escapism time to regroup.

Personally, I have found the best escapism, for me, is in books. When all is finally quiet in the house, all family members in bed, I open a book. Be it thriller, paranormal, romance, historical fiction, or sci-fi, I forget real life for a little while and escape into another world.  I breathe deep, snuggle back in my tilt-back chair, and sink into the world the author has built, whether the novel takes place in the present, past or future time period.

In all the novels, be it thrills, chills, sweet romance, or adventure, I’ve escaped into them all. I was the characters facing Cujo and walking along with Odd Thomas speaking to spirits.  I accompanied John Corey as he battled the evil men on Plum Island. I’ve been a member of the Camel Club helping to keep a good eye on what is happening in Washington.

I’ve flown the galaxy to different planets with Jean Luc Picard and visited DS-9 to meet aliens. I watched Odo sink into his bucket to catch a nap.

I’ve also been a member of a Tac Team with the strong characters who fell so deeply in love while in the midst of a dangerous mission.

I’ve sailed on wooden ships flying the Jolly Roger. I’ve accompanied courtesans into the palaces of great monarchs. I even went with James Bond on all his spy missions. What a thrill.

Now, you know I’m talking years and years of escapism, or reading the once upon a time favorites.

What better type of escapism than to live another’s life for a while? Leave your headaches behind and enjoy stepping into another world for a few hours of alone time and getting your mind off your real life problems.

In my novella, I will take you into Rita’s world. One filled with Roma mysticism and clan folklore. Rita wears a magic crystal amulet that has been handed down through her maternal bloodline.  But, will the amulet be enough to help her to face the battle with her police task force to stop a serial killer?

Join me for a bit of escapism. Come along on the wild ride of danger, heated romance, and the unexpected twists in Gypsy Crystal.

(BOOK EXCERPT)
Rita Moldova’s best-kept secret, a crystal amulet that shows her the last image a victim had seen when they died and has helped propel her career as a homicide detective – until prostitutes start dropping.

A ritual killer dubbed the Ripper by the media is terrorizing her town and it’s Rita’s job to help end his killing spree. The problem – Rita’s mystical amulet, passed down through her Roma bloodline, has failed for the first time in memory to do its job – and it’s making it a real bitch for Rita to do hers.

To make matters worse, the FBI has sent in hunky agent, Matt Boulet, to lead the case – and Rita finds herself attracted to him.

When Rita visits her mother – a gifted seer in her own right – and her uncle to glean what she can about the history of the amulet and the lore of their clan, she learns much more than she bargained for, and the truth is too much for her to swallow.
As the investigation continues, Rita learns she can’t deny the lore of the ancients, or her growing feelings for Matt Boulet.

(Excerpt)
A piercing scream echoed from the alley between Red’s Bar and The Totem Pole. Adrenaline shot through her veins. Jesus, it’s the Ripper!

Rita yelled for Sully, folded her fingers around the Glock in her purse, and headed toward the mouth of the dark alleyway. She bent low near the entrance, then eased around the corner. A cat yowled, then leaped to the ledge above her head. Rita jerked and flattened her back against the cold bricks of the building. Tiny feet scurried across her shoe. She gasped and kicked out her foot. The glare of headlights behind her swept the overflowing garbage cans, creating a macabre dance of shadow and light against the walls. Brakes squealed. A car door opened. She didn’t turn to look, instead she hugged the rough bricks and slid further into the alley’s depth hoping to spot the Ripper. Quickly, she hunkered down behind a trashcan, the rancid smell of old grease turned her stomach.

“I’m here,” Sully said, crouching behind his open door, the car’s headlights left on. “Wait, Rita. Boulet told us not to go it alone.” Sully tipped a flashlight beam around his door to sweep over the trashcans, the brick walls, and then his light flashed on the green dumpster twenty feet ahead on the left. He lowered the beam to the cement. A woman’s bare legs protruded from behind the large green bin.

Rita’s eyes darted from side to side, watching for any slight movement in the shadows. Nothing. Every nerve in her body strung tight, she bent low to approach the dumpster.

Tires skidded behind Sully’s car. A door opened, and running footsteps approached her. A firm hand folded over her pistol while the other held her arm in a vice-like grip. She yanked away, spun, and looked up into heated eyes. “Don’t ever hold onto my gun arm like that again.”

“Then next time follow orders,” said Matt.

I live in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. Many of the locations I wrote about in Gypsy are copied from the areas around me. I used false names of course, but if anyone from my county reads the book, I’m sure they’ll recognize a few spots.

The quaint old century mall I used is now torn down to the foundation.  The river road is real and just as scary as in the book. Not for the faint of heart.

A Pecunious Life - How to Have a Life Abounding in True Wealth

Genre: Self-Help
Publisher: Infinity Publishing
ISBN:0741458195

Review
The book A Pecunious Life written by Author Mike Dolan has great advice for improving ones life, not only does the author write details of how to become more wealthy, but he incorporates his own experiences which are woven into lessons of life quality. Learning from the past, learning from mistakes, learning from beliefs or mis-beliefs, life-altering events, and exercises where the author asks you to sit in a quiet place and reflect on the lessons given.

The book is not really about becoming wealthy in the money sense, but wealthy in the spiritual and happiness sense. Could we be happy with less? Happiness is a state of mind-

I found this educational and easy to read and recommend it to adults in need of self-hep, spiritual guides, and for people who need a better life than they have right now.

Here is Mike in his own words:

This is a challenge for me to write.  I’m not accustomed to writing about myself.  I am a newly published author who believes in the best this life has.  I’m a positive energy that is always willing to help those that seek out my help.  I am an enabler, a catalyst that’s willing to set the bonfire of your soul aflame.  I am nobody.. and yet I am everyone.  I have the same feeling, the same hopes, the same desires, and the same dreams you do.  Perhaps the one difference is my burning desire to help others come alive to find the dreams once held in my heart.  My intent is to help as many people as I possibly can, to bring joy to as many lives as I can, and to empower as many people as I can to find the life of dreams again… My life has been comprised of experience, experiences that have lead me to this point in my life.  I wish to share what it is that I have learned along the way so tthat we all will enjoy the time we have.

Today is a new day as is everyday of your life if you so choose. What do I mean by this? It’s simple really… New experiences in our lives always seem to be more exciting, more moving, more beautiful, more of everything. Each day has that energy within it, more specifically your experience of this life as that energy in it. You get to choose how you experience the days of your life. You don’t always get to choose what is within the experience, but you do get to control the way you experience it. Take everyday as a new day, as a new challenge, as a fresh start… Many may balk at this idea due to the nature of how they perceive their own lives, but I would challenge them to  try it. If you work in an office where you life is dull, where all you do is sit in a cubicle and push paper. I challenge you to experience it for the first time as if it was your first day. Go in with a smile, say Hi to someone that doesn’t expect it… Experience your day as a new day…
